Summary

Allows the "grade placement committee" of a school to allow a student to meet a set of alternative criteria to advance in grade placement. The alternative criteria includes consideration of a student's overall academic performance, TAKS test results with consideration of extenuating circumstances, and the evaluations of a student's principal and certified teachers in the student's school district.

Background

This bill partners with HB 137 to reduce the importance of the TAKS test. It mirrors legislation from previous sessions by Olivio.
