Summary

This bill allows educationally disadvantaged students in the state's 6 largest school districts to take the public money budgeted for their education expenses and apply it as a 'voucher' to a private school.

Political Context

After Rep. Grusendorf, former chair of Public Education and pro-voucher advocate, lost in his Republican primary in 2006, Frank Corte is taking-up the pro-voucher banner. This bill is similar to the contentious bills that were defeated in 2005 and 2003.
