The Texas Attorney General gave his support for this bill yesterday and stated it would likely stand up in SCOTUS if challenged.

Yes, he did go out on a limb to say th eUS Supremem court would not toss this out, despite the many legal, Supreme Court, and capital trial experts who say otherwise. This bill is all about politics, not protecting children. Texas underfunds all programs that protect children!

Texas, under Perry, has so underfunded child protection that anything positive now will make them look like heros to all who have not paid attention. The previous poster is correct, this is politics at it's ugliest not about our children.

Summary

A new category of crime was created by the Texas House that dictates a 25 year to life prison sentence and the possibility of the death penalty for repeat offenders.

Background

The new category of crime is "continual sexual abuse of a young child or children" which is defined as continual sexual abuse of a child under 14 years of age over a period of 30 days or more.
