People who break laws should be held accountable and since ICE is virtually non-existent, someone needs to take care of the problem. Are you sure the word "nationality" belongs in the description tho? It should only apply to illegal aliens.

Summary

Allows peace officers to detain a person based only on the person's immigration status or nationality, and to inquire about a person's immigration status. Prohibits police chiefs or local ordinances from limiting such inquiry or detention.

Background

Many police chiefs are against local enforcement of immigration laws, as this undermines their ability to build the community trust they need to keep the peace. Localities also find the cost of enforcing federal immigration polices burdensome. Since 1992 in Houston Police Department policy has officially forbidden officers from enforcing immigration laws in most cases. /1/

Political Context

This bill is more or less the exact opposite of SB 150
