Arguments against SB 134

It's a voter rights restriction bill. People should have the right to vote straight party if they choose to do so.

Texans have had the right to vote straight party since 1986, there is no real reason to support taking away this voting option. Voters don't have to vote straight party if they don't want to.

Jeff wants to make sure he gets reelected

Being one of the few moderate Republicans in the Senate, he's starting to see the voter creep in his district where people are voting straight party in his district and he's in danger. Wentworth has always counted on crossover Democratic votes especially in primaries where he's had his own party target him for being a moderate. I personally think it's up to the voter to decide if they care to see individual candidates names or want to blindly vote the party. Some people just want a quick way of voting, and voting straight party is about all the participation you're going to get out of them.
I know it is harsh

I think everyone should be required to look at each race they are voting for. They still would have the ability to choose Democrat or Republican every time, but making it too easy with "straight party" voting helps lead to an electorate of idiots. People should be too proud to blindly follow the party line.

The electorate largely consists of stupid idiots

It is said that voters choose candidates as though they were separating the laundry. Making it easier to vote supports the idea of participatory democracy in a careless nation like the US. At least with party line affiliation there is some semblance of legislative discipline to support whatever party philosophy people choose to identify with. Chaos is what elimination of straight ticket voting would bring. Voters can break ranks and still vote straight ticket. Just as absurd as drawing districts to favor the party in power, legislation should not be made to comply with the interests of a single candidate.
