Summary

Requires vision and motor control testing for drivers license renewal at age 90. Also shortens the time of license validity to 2 years at that age.

Background

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reports that older drivers have higher rates of fatal crashes per mile than any other group except young drivers. /1/

Political Context

At least 19 states have some age related renewal requirement./1/ AARP has been an active participant in these discussions.

This bill is a companion to HB 84, and is scheduled for hearing in the Homeland Security and Transportation Committee on Wed 2/14/07.
