Summary

Authorizes the State Board of Education to issue 215 "charters" authorizing private institutions to receive public funds as if they were a public school district.

Background

Vouchers and Charter Schools are a perennial topic at the Texas legislature.

Detail

This bill grants schools rated "exemplary" for two years in a row a $1000 bonus per child./1/ It has a $175 Million fiscal note. The senate committee hearing can be seen here and here.
