Summary
Allocates of funds from the "clean air account" to the existing "clean school bus program," and expands the technology and applicability of the grant made under that program.
Background
The diesel engines used to power most school buses in this state release 40 different toxic chemicals which can get into air breathed by the students in the bus./1/ This bill augments a program which gives grants to replace and upgrade school buses to reduce their emissions. This bill states the following legislative purpose:
The legislature intends for the program to result in the maximum reduction of emissions of diesel exhaust from the school bus fleet of this state for the duration of the program.
