There have been allegations of voter intimidation and deceptive election practices throughout Texas.  In some communities, false information has been disseminated regarding the time and place of an election, and who is eligible to vote.  These types of practices have the potential to reduce voter turnout and ultimately impact elections. In order to protect citizens' right to vote, increased penalties are required to deter these types of anti-democratic practices from occurring. H.B. 283 will criminalize the actions of individuals who attempt to disenfranchise voters through misinformation and intimidation.
